The formal essays are designed to help you integrate the materials we examine in class into some kind of analytical framework. We do not expect you to do research beyond the class materials provided. We do expect you to provide a clear thesis (your key message) and develop it by providing support drawn from the readings, mini-lectures, discussions, guest speakers, and other course materials. In this second essay we ask that you integrate the materials from more than one reading and/or film into an analytical framework. We expect you to have a good title, a clear thesis (your key message) and careful diction. Your key thesis should be developed by finding support for your arguments in the readings, film, guest speakers and other course materials. See the guidelines for details.
