Professor Elizabeth M. Nolan is the Pfizer-Laubach Career Development Assistant Professor at MIT. She grew up in Niskayuna, New York and graduated magna cum laude from Smith College in 2000 with highest honors in chemistry and a minor in music. She went on to study inorganic chemistry as a graduate student at MIT, receiving her PhD in 2006 and joined MIT’s Department of Chemistry at MIT as an assistant professor in 2009.

Professor Nolan’s research focuses on how certain proteins in the body destroy microbes by denying them essential metal nutrients, such as zinc. She hopes her work will reveal new strategies for developing powerful antibiotics.
